The importance of equine movement for therapeutic benefit

According to Rupert Isaacson the developer of "The Horse Boy Method", if you put someone on a horse in a collected rhythm, the sustained hip rocking creates the feel good and communication hormone oxytocin in the body, with the Canter stride often being the most effective for oxytocin production.

-
The rhythmic movement of therapeutic riding stimulates the cerebellum which has been linked to both language and attention (bass et al, 2009; Wolf et all, 2009)
-
Close body contact stimulates the release of oxytocin which is linked to decreased levels of stress and anxiety. Both are essential to learning (Holt-Lunstad, 2008)
